Alternatively, there are a number of traditional posadas in the centre, listed on google maps. The most central are Villa Mirabella and Posada del Faro. The hotels Valerios and the Aida Luz are also very central. Rooms in the posadas are usually around $500-$700/night per room and usually have 2 double beds so can sleep up to 4. I recommend going to each one and seeing what they have on offer before you decide.

Lastly, if you’re looking for something seriously cheap, you might be lucky enough to find room rental with a local. You just need to walk around when you get here looking for the signs โ€˜Cuarto en renta” and asking everyone you meet.

To Summarize

“What’s the best place to stay in El Cuyo?”

That depends on your budget and priorities. Anything in the galleries on this page gets consistently good reviews or has been vetted by us so falls within the ‘best accommodation in El Cuyo‘ category.

“Which hotels are good for families?

Lunarena is the only boutique hotel that accepts children, so you don’t really have a choice. However, have you considered a house rental? Houses are perfect for families as they’re far more private, so you can be as relaxed as you like and there’s no worry about annoying fellow guests with noise.

“Which hotels are good for couples?”

Casa Cielo and Balao are adult only so tend to be better for couples. Balao is not a fully serviced hotel though, so if it’s a romantic weekend for your beau in a lush hotel – Casa Cielo is the best bet.

“What hotels have the best views?” Casa Cielo and Lunarena. Some of the houses also have pretty fantastic views – Casa Caracol, The Beach Villa, Casa de Bo, Zazil Ha...

“What are the best places that are on the beach?”

El Cuyo is only 1km wide from laguna to beach, so anywhere is pretty close to the beach. However if you want to be able to open your doors onto the beach, the 12 following places are best:

  • Casa Cielo $$$
  • Casa Andromeda $$$
  • The Beach Villa $$
  • Casa Tortugas $$
  • Casa Caracol $$
  • Casa Atardecer $$
  • Casa de Bo $$
  • Casita Azul $$
  • Casa Reyna $$
  • The Turtles Nest $$
  • Casa Punta Azul $$
  • Casa de Mama OFE $$
  • Casa del Antropologo Danes $$

“What are the best places with a pool?”

  • Casa Cielo $$$
  • Lunarena $$$
  • Balao $$
  • Casa de Bo $$
  • Can Cocal $$

“What are the best places close to the centre?”

Remember El Cuyo is only about 5km from east to west, so nowhere is massively far from the centre, although walking in the heat of day can get you sweaty… The 5 best most central places are:

  • Casa Cielo $$$
  • Casita Azul $$
  • Casa del Ritmo $$
  • Casa Los Peces $

“What are the best places nearest to the kitesurfing?”

The kitesurfing launch area is to the east of town so for kitesurfing, the further east, the better. The 7 following places are our best picks…

  • Lunarena $$$
  • Balao $$$
  • Villas Chac Chi/Akamay $$
  • Casa Caracol $$

Reserving your Accommodation in El Cuyo

The websites with by far the greatest variety of accommodation in El Cuyo are Airbnb and Booking.com; so to get an idea of prices and what’s available, these are the best places to start your search. Vrbo and Tripadvisor don’t have the same selection and what they do have is a repeat of what’s on airbnb and booking.com.

Not reserving and finding something on arrival is possible, although as there are few hotels and vacation houses need preparation time, your choice will be limited. As lots of Airbnb rentals donโ€™t accept same day reservations, this narrows your options still further. During holiday periods, (Semana Santa, Christmas and the summer months) it is 100% advised to pre-book as accommodation usually gets reserved well in advance.

Top Tips for Airbnb/Booking.com

If you find something that you like that isn’t listed here, it’s worth reading the top tips below to make sure you don’t end up in accommodation that doesn’t meet your expectations…

  1. These sites sometimes give options for Holbox (due to its proximity) so when you find something you like, double check the map.
  2. Check that the property has reviews. Read them. It’s not advisable to book a place that has no or very few reviews. The more reviews the better (as long as they’re not negative!).
  3. Check the photos, and read the description and facilities. Never book something based on the photos alone – they can be misleading.
  4. For Airbnb you can use a Superhost filter which allows you to search only places that constantly get great reviews and that never cancel on a guest.
Super cute, but not for rent!

We hope this information helps you find the accommodation that will best suit you during your vacation in El Cuyo. If you’ve found something else that looks good and you just want a local’s point of view, feel free to drop us a message and we’ll give you an honest opinion. Happy hotel hunting ๐Ÿ˜€
