Is the Kiting Good In El Cuyo?
Simply put…yes!
El Cuyo is fast becoming known as a hot destination for kiters… statistics show that kiteboarding conditions here compare favourably to the better-known and well-rated resorts of Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Cancun and Isla Blanca.
From November until June, these conditions – consistent winds and shallow waters – make it a perfect place to learn this relatively new and rapidly growing sport. Even if you don’t fancy giving it a go yourself, it’s really entertaining to watch! When the north winds kick up, kiters from all over Quintana Roo and Yucatan descend on the town and you’ll get to see some impressively high jumps, twists and turns.
The kiting zone of the beach is to the east side of town, where there’s also accommodation to rent for reasonable prices. Most kiters hang out near the El Cuyo Kite School which is pinpointed on google maps.
If you need lessons or to rent gear in town, there are several options. Please note that all the suppliers mentioned below are IKO-certified. If you are looking to rent gear only, a reservation is recommended.
